Before buying a laptop, whether it is a new one or an older one it is important to understand your needs. What are you going to use on your laptop the most? If you are planning on using only the movie players and sound system and once in a while browse the internet then you needn't have the latest operating systems and other such software's. You can comfortably make do with Windows XP and not require a windows 7 enabled computer.

Used laptops can be bought from dealer stores or from the buyer directly. It is possible to buy a ready to use computer from the original owner of the laptop because the software would already be installed. Dealer stores would have formatted the computer and hence you would require installing all the software onto it.

It is always a good idea to check the laptop thoroughly before you buy it. You need to ask the seller why he is doing so. If in case the dealer is trying to see you a damaged piece or a counterfeit product you should be wise enough not to get tied down with a lemon!

Battery, wiring, hard disk, data cards and mother boards should be checked thoroughly. They should all be original pieces and not burnt out china made replicas. It is best to buy a laptop still under the warranty period so all repairs can be taken care of by the company itself.

Never pay the entire sum before trying out the laptop. You must retain a fraction of the money before going into the deal blindly!
